Isn't the cost of the Police Shooting Facility Too Much?  Question  Help CTHall

I guess it's already approved but the $24 million cost I've heard for an indoor shooting facility seems awfully high.

What will be the percent usage rate of this facility? Wouldn't it have made more sense to do a joint venture with other cities, sharing the cost and putting the facility to better use?

Fair Trade - Land swap with Oceanside?  Question  Help BudGreen

It has yet to get much publicity and it's in the early stages of discussion apparently but is it good for Carlsbad to swap land south of Rt 78 near College to get land adjacent to Westfield Mall.

The land now owned by Carlsbad includes a gravel pit and wildlife area. It may become subject to a McMillan Company development after cleanup. But the general area has also been the subject of discussions to preserve open space.

Do we want to give away land that may be part of a plan for some valuable open space in Carlsbad? And of what value is the land potentially gained near Westfield Mall?

Footpath across Buena Vista Lagoon

It was interesting to read that a footpath across Buena Vista Lagoon has been in the discussion stage for some time without funding from Carlsbad or Oceanside to implement it. Now, apparently, it's on hold pending the outcome of a plan to restore the lagoon. That could be quite a ways off.

The footpath would, presumably be adjacent to the coast highway that goes crosses the lagoon on a bridge.

Recycle Phone Books

You can place used phone books in the blue recycling bins in Carlsbad. Besides the phone books and newspapers, you can also place magazines and glossy, office, color and printer paper in these bins.

Library Learning Center Construction Underway

While signs at the site on Eureka told passerbys about the planned construction, it may have appeared that the only work yet to be done was with the parking lot. Not so. All of a sudden I saw the existing building was gone and construction was underway for the planned new Library Learning Center.

A North County times article helps those unfamiliar with the situation to understand what's happening. Through the fund-raising efforts of Carlsbad Library and Arts Foundation, at least $5 million dollars was raised (by the time of the article) to pay for a new building to house Adult Learning and Centro de Informacion programs now housed in temporary quarters near the Senior Center at one end of Pine Avenue Park.

The project is slated for completion in February, 2008. Hopefully all the required funds have been raised.

I wonder if the relocation of the services to the new center will free up space for more suitable restrooms for Pine Avenue Park. The existing one seem quite limited considering the amount of activity in the park.

Legal to ride bicycles on sidwalks?  Question  Help STickler

Although I understand that it may be precarious for riders to navigate the hazards of the streets, it can be irritating to encounter bikes when trying to walk along a sidewalk.

Library Offers Internet Access to Premium Databases

As awesome as it is, the Internet doesn't offer free access to everything. You may at times wonder how to read a Wall Street Journal article or get an older article from the Los Angeles Times. These are the situations where a hand is out for payment.
