I called for an appointment to renew my passport.
First you listen to an excruiatingly long recorded message during which it's implied that you can renew your passport at the Carlsbad office. The message, for example, says that an existing passport is proof of citizenship.
Anyway, press "0" to get live assitance.
I was told that they do not do renewals and given the State Department web site for information about renewals. Web Site
